When you share a link from an app, most platforms quietly attach extra data to the end of the URL — a referral code, a device ID, a share token. That's what powers things like "Suggested for you" or "Someone shared this with you, follow them?" prompts on the other end. Scrubbit strips that part out and leaves the actual content link behind.
A list of "known tracking parameter names" is a losing game — platforms add new ones whenever they want, and a list only catches what's already been cataloged. So Scrubbit avoids denylists wherever it can:

A link to a video or post always shows who posted it — that's public information no matter who sends you the link, the same way a YouTube URL shows a channel name. Scrubbit doesn't try to hide that, on any platform, because it isn't the sharer's identity — it's the content's. What actually identifies whoever forwarded the link to you is separate: a referral code, a share token, a device ID, almost always packed into the query string after the ?. That's what Scrubbit removes.
vm.tiktok.com, tiktok.com/t/, pin.it, fb.watch, and Reddit's mobile share links (reddit.com/r/sub/s/<code>) bounce through the platform's own servers before reaching the real content — a browser can't see where they lead without the platform's cooperation, which it doesn't give. If this site has the optional resolver turned on, these get resolved to their real destination first and then cleaned normally, with a note telling you that happened. Without it, Scrubbit can only clean what's visible in the short link itself.Facebook and Instagram links shared through their internal link-shim (hosts like l.facebook.com) wrap the real destination inside the link rather than tracking it with a simple parameter. Scrubbit recognizes that pattern, unwraps it to find the real link, and cleans that instead.

Scrubbit doesn't keep what you paste. Cleaning a link happens locally in your browser's JavaScript — nothing is logged, saved to a database, or looked at by anyone, including us. There's simply nowhere for it to be kept.
Most links are cleaned entirely on your device and never go anywhere. A few shortened/redirect-style links — TikTok's vm.tiktok.com and tiktok.com/t/ links, Pinterest's pin.it, Facebook's fb.watch, and Reddit's mobile share links — can't be followed to their real destination from inside a browser at all (that's a browser security restriction, not a choice Scrubbit makes). If this site's operator has turned on the optional resolver for these, that one specific link is sent to a small helper service to find out where it actually points, then cleaned as normal. That helper doesn't log, store, or cache anything either — it makes one request and forgets it instantly. Everything else about how Scrubbit works is unchanged.
Scrubbit doesn't ask you to sign up, doesn't set tracking cookies, and doesn't run any analytics or advertising scripts today. There's nothing to opt out of because nothing is being collected.
If Scrubbit later adds features that involve a server — such as an account system, ad support, or usage limits — this page will be updated first to describe exactly what's collected and why, before any such change ships.
